Benefits

The benefits of the LORD

He daily loadeth us with benefits — forgiveness, healing, redemption, mercy, and every good and perfect gift, given freely in Christ.

Forget not all his benefits

The Scripture bids us remember what the LORD does for his people — pardon, healing, redemption, and mercy, poured out without price.

“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”

Psalm 103:2 (KJB)

“Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.”

Psalm 103:3 (KJB)

“Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies.”

Psalm 103:4 (KJB)

“Who satisfieth thy mouth with good [things]; [so] [that] thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.”

Psalm 103:5 (KJB)

Every good and perfect gift

His benefits are not only pardon and healing, but every good thing freely given through Christ to all who believe.

“Blessed [be] the Lord, [who] daily loadeth us [with] [benefits], [even] the God of our salvation. Selah.”

Psalm 68:19 (KJB)

“Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly [places] in Christ.”

Ephesians 1:3 (KJB)

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights.”

James 1:17 (KJB)

“What shall I render unto the LORD [for] all his benefits toward me?”

Psalm 116:12 (KJB)

He forgiveth all thine iniquities

The first and greatest benefit is pardon. Sin is not overlooked but forgiven — the debt cancelled, the record blotted out, through the blood of his Son.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

1 John 1:9 (KJB)

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, [even] the forgiveness of sins.”

Colossians 1:14 (KJB)

“Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”

Titus 2:14 (KJB)

He healeth all thy diseases

He is not indifferent to the body's frailties. The same Lord who forgives the soul is able to heal the sick and to bind up the brokenhearted.

“He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities… and with his stripes we are healed.”

Isaiah 53:5 (KJB)

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”

Psalm 147:3 (KJB)

“And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”

James 5:15 (KJB)

He redeemeth thy life from destruction

We were not bought back with silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ — a lamb without blemish, given for us.

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, [as] silver and gold, from your vain conversation [received] by tradition from your fathers.”

1 Peter 1:18 (KJB)

“But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”

1 Peter 1:19 (KJB)

Plenteous in mercy and truth

His mercies are not measured out begrudgingly. He is full of compassion and gracious, and it is by his mercy — not our works — that we are saved.

“But thou, O Lord, [art] a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.”

Psalm 86:15 (KJB)

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.”

Titus 3:5 (KJB)

Peace that passeth understanding

He gives a peace the world cannot give and cannot take away — peace with God through Christ, and a settled heart that trusts in him.

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

John 14:27 (KJB)

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:7 (KJB)

“Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on] [thee]: because he trusteth in thee.”

Isaiah 26:3 (KJB)

My God shall supply all your need

He who clothes the lilies and feeds the birds does not forget his children. The Shepherd of the sheep provides, and those who seek his kingdom first want no good thing.

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:19 (KJB)

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Matthew 6:33 (KJB)

“The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want.”

Psalm 23:1 (KJB)

I will never leave thee

His greatest benefit is his presence. He does not leave us comfortless but walks with his people to the end of the world, and in his presence is fulness of joy.

“[Let your] conversation [be] without covetousness; [and] [be] content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

Hebrews 13:5 (KJB)

“Lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Matthew 28:20 (KJB)

“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence [is] fulness of joy; at thy right hand [there] [are] pleasures for evermore.”

Psalm 16:11 (KJB)

The gift of God is eternal life

Above every earthly benefit stands the gift of life that never ends — held not in our own hand, but in his, from which no one can pluck us.

“For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Romans 6:23 (KJB)

“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any [man] pluck them out of my hand.”

John 10:28 (KJB)

“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.”

1 John 5:11 (KJB)
